Lady Bisons Defend Title The one word that summed up the Lady Bison's 1990 season was "victorious." The team successfully defended their championship title at the AIC/district meet Nov. 6. Then they capped off the season with a trip to the nationals in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Skeptics did not foresee such a bright future at the beginning of the season. The loss of four AllAIC runners left Coach Ted Lloyd without a senior on his team. However, Lloyd's faith didn't waver. At the beginning of the season he described his team· as "having better overall strength than last year's team." Lloyd had good reason to be optimistic. Despite the youth of his team he had two returning AllAIC runners, Kelsie Hutchinson and Chandra Latimer. In addition, he had a solid group of freshmen including two former allstate runners. The team faced an unexpected obstacle when Latimer was unable to complete the season due to illness. This left Hutchinson in a leadership role. "I wasn't used to being the oldest on the team," said Hutchinson, who finished first at the AIC meet. She went on to say that her leadership role felt "kind of strange." There didn't appear to be a shortage of leaders for tomorrow either. If the 1990 season was any indication, the Lady Bisons have great things in store for them. Hutchinson summed it up when she said, "I'm excited about the years to come." by Leslie Holland Front Row: Kelsie Hutchison, Valeria McCammon, Shauna Queen, Vicki Lawrence, Amy Middlestat.
