Who's Who Cope excells as a Mom. Wife, ~cholar While most students had outside responsibilities like work or clubs to manage, few students were like Diane Cope, a modernday Super Mom who juggled college, motherhood, and the pressures of being a preacher's wife. Cope was a senior majoring in elementary education and special education. She also played mother to Matthew, 7, and Megan, 5, and was married to Mike Cope, minister at the College Church of Christ. While all of these were full time roles, Cope enthusiastically and successfully took them all on. Cope was uncertain how she would use her degree upon graduation in May 1991. "I plan on using my degree, either by tutoring or substitute teaching," Cope said. "I also need to be available to my family, especially Megan, so I probably won't work full-time. I might do volunteer work." While balancing school and home might be difficult for some people, Cope had few problems. "I'm real careful about that because I don't feel good about not being at home with them. An 8:00 class is harder to manage. Mike takes one kid and I take the other, so it works out." "Really, my schedule is not that hectic unless I have Megan with me," Cope added, "It is a lot harder to study. When you have a family, you have to be really disciplined and organized. I'm not saying I am all of that." Though her role as Mrs. Mike Cope set her apart from most student, Diane Cope just felt like one of the crowd in her classes. "I just don't worry about being Mike's wife. I'm really no different from everyone else, and prefer to be called "Diane". - Kathleen Eyman FULL-TIME MOM, PARTTIME STUDENT.
