- All Stars [ All Stars honored AIC and NAIA • Ill T he success of the 1989 Bison football team did not end with the end of the season. After leading the Bisons to an AIC championship, sophomore Patrick Gill was named to the AIC and NAIA teams. Gill, a linebacker, led the Bisons with 102 solo tackles, but he gave much of the credit to his teammates. "It was a team effort," he said. "They helped me out a lot." Three other Bisons were selected to the All-AIC team. Split end Mike Alexander had 32 receptions for the Bisons. Defensive end Kenwick Thompson had 67 sacks and defensive back Lance Rogers made four interceptions. Several other Bisons were selected for the second team and honorable mention All-AIC teams. Fred Wiley was named to the second team. Darryl Biggers, Detrick Cathy, Brent Goodwin, Chris Will, Tad Niblett, Pete Fillis, John Spann, and Mark Thomas were all on the honorable mention list. Coach Larry Richmond was selected as the AIC and NAIA District 17 Coach of the Year, an honor that, according to 72 Endless Activities Gill, Richmond was very deserving of. Gill said, "he emphasized unity." He attributed the success of the team to the hard work of the team and the coach and their determination to stick together. The 1988-89 Bison basketball team was also successful in achieving All-AIC status for several players. Guards Corey Camper and David James were selected to the first team. Camper led the team in scoring, assists, and rebounding averages with 22.4 points, 3.6 assists, and 7.5 rebounds a game for the Bisons and led the team in free throw percentages with 80 percent. Carl Collins was selected to the Honorable mention team. Julie Roddy represented the Lady Bisons' on the 1988-89 AIC honorable mention team. Roddy, playing center, averaged 8.5 points and 6.1 rebounds a game. Teammate Lisa Kirk said, "Julie was a consistent leader for us:" Whatever the task before them, the teams proved their worth by continually striving to do their best. - Myleea Hill GO ON IN.
