[ Men's Track & Field Successful season, team placed fourth T he Harding University men's track and field team finished fourth in the AIC for the 1989 season , defeating close ranked Henderson State University and Southern Arkansas University. Coach Ted Lloyd said there were several goals the team hoped to fulfill that season , including being more competitive moving up in the AIC standings. Olester Bernard won all AIC in the shot put category , with a distance of 54 feet 2 inches. John Murray won the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:25.84, and the 10,000 meter run with a time of 32:06.55. Te Howard won the high jump with a jump LOOK AT IT GO. Olester Bernard, and Terry Albright, both seniors, anticipate the landing of the shot put during a spring practice. The men's track team placed fourth in the AIC. of 6 fee t 10 inches. Harding had fi ve men who qualified fo r national s in t he s pring, in cl udin g Be rn a rd , Howard, Murray and J immy Sloan. Howard captured six AIC champi onships in th e hi gh jump, including t hree indoor and three outdoo r t it les. He was also a four -time NAIA scholar athlete. He has a co ll ege ca ree r best of 6 feet 10 1/4 inches.
