[ Bison Boosters Cheerleaders offer support for crowds as well as teams T o the Bison cheerleaders, there is more to cheerleading than "Yeah rah! Go team go!" When the girls assume the role of a Bison cheerleader, they assume the role of someone who keeps busy practicing, organizing, and edifying. The football cheerleaders arrived at school a week early and practiced five eight-hour days learning floor cheers, chants, and routines. "We practiced our routines early so we could spend more time making posters, doing run throughs, and making locker decorations and good luck notes with candy for the players," said Angie Butler, captain of the cheerleading squads. "We didn't have much luck with bonfires and pep rallies this year because of scheduling conflicts." "The highlight of the year was the UCA game," she said. "We got permission from the deans to shoepolish the campus the night before the game." The day of the game, it was apparent that the cheerleaders had provided Bison spirit. The students could not glance across campus without seeing "Go Bisons, Beat UCA" written in white on the buildings and car windows. Butler said, "That night, we had an impromptu pep rally that consisted of hollers, chants, and just acting silly for the players. There was a feeling in the air. We knew the Bisons would win." "Six out of the eight basketball cheerleaders tumble or know gymnastics so we plan on using that talent." Butler said. The basketball cheerleaders did as much for the basketball players as the other cheerleaders did for the football players. They, too, tried to give the players and the fans as much excitement as possible, she said. The football cheer leaders were Krissi Alexander, Shannon Banks, Angie Butler, Tiffany Cook, Nicole Dawkins, Lori Griffin, Tammi Hollingsworth, Cindy Jones, and Chery1 Risner. The basketball cheerleaders were Angie Butler, Laura Cobb, Brenda Curd, Monica Kimbrell, Malinda Lucky, and Lisa Senecal. Butler, like many of the other cheerleaders was persistent in her effort to help the teams win. "I'm determined to get the crowd fired up this year," she said. "Enthusiasm makes such a difference." - Lex Owens RALLY BAGGERS.
