1989-1990 Yearbook

[ Men's Basketball Bucy coaches last season, four end college career T he basketball season drew to a close with four outstanding players and a coach ending their career with Harding. The 1989-90 season marked the end of the college basketball career of Corey Camper, Sean French, David James , and Curtis Washington. The "roller coaster season," as James called it, was not without excitement. According to James the team continually worked for a home court advantage in the playoffs. The 1990 team will face many challenges and changes. With a number of their seniors graduating, the '90 team will use freshmen talents to the fullest. Probably the most visible change to the program will be the absence of Head Coach Jess Bucy. The '89-90 season concluded Bucy's 21-year-career as head coach of the Harding Bison men's basketball team. "Coach Bucy has been a good Christian SUSPENSE. Opposing team members look with suspense while Corey Camper, senior, towers over them to score two points. The 1989-90 season was Camper's last at Harding University. Though much talent will remain for the '90 team, the members all agreed they would miss the efforts of those leaving. Camper and James were both named to the All-AIC first team and All-NAIA District 17 selection during their 1988-89 season. Camper led the AIC with an average of 22.4 points scored per game in '88, during the '89 season he moved to the number two spot on the books for career points, placing behind high scorer Butch Gardner. James placed third with an average of 20.8 points per game. Though those who remain feel confident that they will give Harding another team to be proud of, they all agreed that the skills of the senior players and especially those of Bucy will be missed. - Wayne Westerholm Kimherly Nunn Men's Basketball 47
