1989-1990 Yearbook

[ Women's Basketball Bisons break record, triumph over Ark. College A s the weather grew colder, the Lady Bisons got warmer. After an okay start at the end of the fall semester, they returned after Christmas vacation with renewed energy. Possibly the most exciting of their contests was their overtime victory over the Lady Reddies of Henderson State. The starting line-up of the 1989-90 Lady Bison's basketball team boasted four outstanding senior leaders, Syrena Burch, Lisa Kirk, Carrie White, and Gina Hudson. At forward, Syrena Birch lead the team in scoring, averaging around 13 points in each game. Lisa Kirk, a senior guard, continued to shoot well from the three point line, racking up her fourth year among the high percentage scorers in the AIC. Carrie White, playing guard, was second in the average points scored for the Bison's with the average of about 11 points a game. Gina Hudson was important in maintaining the defensive intensity, playing forward and accounting for many good defensive plays, as well as shooting consistently outside. Nancy Wilson, a 6'2' freshman forward, added the factor of height to an already talented lineup. She was among the top ten AIC players in rebounding, and still had three years of college eligibility remaining. This year the Lady Bison's took a major step in the right direction when they triumphed over Arkansas College. A task that had riot been overcome in the history of the school. Greg Harnden, in his first year as coach of the Lady Bison's, was impressed with the quality, character, good attitudes, and well rounded lives of the players. "These girls are not just here to play basketball," he said. "These ladies also spend time together off the court and are very active in their social clubs." "We're not just a basketball team " Kirk said "We're friends."
