- A L "Our club is young and has the potential for great things."- Ben Stanley ' 'Triumph through together - ness," reads the motto of Lambda Sigma social club. Indeed the club stressed a renewed spirit. of togetherness as it worked to rebuild a club that lost half its members after graduation last sprmg. Last spring brought Lambdas two small men's club sports championships - in basketball and track. The club has always been sports-oriented; these championships not only proved it, but earned the club respect from other clubs for its abilities. The semester - and for half of Lambdas' members their college careers - concluded with the club's formal banquet at the Little Rock Club. Their theme was "Clubbin" Every Minute of it." Although the membership was decreased by half in the spring, the fall semester brought a doubling in the club's size after pledge week. After 10 new memhers and a couple of jumps into the club, Lambdas boasted membership of 22. The new members weren't needed to bring the club sports victories, however, as Lambdas went on to take the small club football championship. The club's final activity in the fall was a combination Christmas party/ hayride - affectionately called a "Shleigh ride" - at Lavon Carter's farm. Lambdas' 1989-90 president, Ben Stanley, said this year was one of a renewed emphasis on the spiritual well-being of the club. Many devotionals were planned throughout the year, and often the club's members attended worship services together. In the spring Lambdas took part in supporting the annual Student Lectureship by attending the all-night prayer devotional in Shores Chapel with other clubs the weekend before the lectureship. The year closed for Lambdas with another banquet and plans for growth and early recruitment for next year. Stanley said of Lambdas: "I've really enjoyed the opportunity the guys have given me to mature, both spiritually and physically. Our club is young and has the potential for great things." - Phillip Tucker Front row: Zale Dowlen, Rebecca Eason, Carla Sparks, Dean Morkassel, John Paul Warnock; Second row: Steven Sills, Michael Bennett, Ben Stanley, Corey Brown, Bobby Wayne Gunn; Back row: Mark Nokes, Heath Pickering, Martin Hopewell, Jonathan Byrd, Troy Allen. - Photo by Sharon Bowles. 234 Endless Friendships PASS THE BATON.
