"I have had a chance to grow and love these guys; they are working extremely hard to make this first year a success." - Richard Shannon Last spring marked the first semester of the existence of Delta Chi Delta social club. Although one of several new clubs to begin during the last year, the club was distinctively different. According to president Richard Shannon, the club began only as an idea among ten guys, some of whom already were in clubs. After discussing the far-reaching goals and possibilities for a new men's club, ideas were generated - as was excitement - and soon a club constitution was written to govern the new club. Club business began immediately. Sponsors were fo und and officers and queens were elected. Red, black and white were chosen as the club's colors, and from that, jerseys were designed. Shannon said the most difficult order of business was selecting a name for the club. Several names were suggested, but the guys finally decided on Delta Chi Delta. Delta Chi enjoyed a healthy reception by new students in the fall as it received more first-choice preferences among clubhunting students than any other small club. Consequently, a productive and encouraging pledge week was followed by the weekend during which bids were handed out. Delta Chi continued to have a memorable year. They got right into the swing of things with their activities. The club enjoyed a hayride in Novemher and a Christmas party the next month. They competed admirably in all men's club sports, shaking up a few "old-timer" clubs on the field. The spring semester saw Delta Chi involved in its first Spring Sing production and then, to cap off the club's first full year, a celebration banquet in Little Rock. In the fall Shannon said, "I'm really excited about Delta Chi. I have had a chanG.e to grow and love these guys; they are working extremely hard to make this first year a success." Well, if this first year was any indication of the future , then Delta Chi's future certainly looks bright. - Phillip Tucker Front row: Dan Feeney, Art Markart, Dolly Nunley, Maria Hayes, Clint Stapp, Brian Mitchell; Second row: Blake Moore, Jeffrey Bennett, Gilbert Luna, Allen Johnson, David Stevenson, John Scott, Chuck Roe; Third row: Steve Vick, Tim Watson, Jason Vogel, Rich Reaves, Matt May, Curt Mickey; Back row: Tod Hoelzle, Richard Shannon, John Fold· ing, Steve Martin, Mike May, Greg Clayton. - Photo by Sharon Bowles.
