"Our club is a group who fulfills their responsibilities to each other." - Jerome Green B eta Phi Kappa social club was struck with tragedy last summer but went on to have a successful year in 19891990. Last spring the club began the semester with a St. Patrick's Day party at the Ganus Gym. The guys fellowshipped with each other, playing Frisbee, volleyball, basketball and indoor baseball. Several members of the club then participated with three other clubs in their Spring Sing '89 show, "Life in the Fast Vein." Beta Phi's spring banquet was held at Coy's in North Little Rock just before the club participated in Special Olympics. The club ended the semester with an ice cream party at its sponsor's home. The club met with tragedy when, during the summer, Steve Churchill was killed while jogging near his home. He was to have been vice president of Beta Phi for this past year. The club was devastated by his death, and all mourned with them. The fall semester brought a renewed spirit to Beta Phi as it readied itself for pledge week. Five new members emerged after silly day, during which the pledges had to carry around a seven-foot inflated whale. The semester continued to be active for Beta Phi, as it enjoyed a hayride, a Christmas party at Pizza Hut, and first place victories in men's small club A- and B-team volleyball. In the spring, the club showed its desire for unity between clubs by attending a small men's club Hobo Stew, sponsored by AGO, at which the clubs led devotionals and played various . sports in the gymnasmm. The semester ended with a banquet at Steak & Ale in Little Rock. Beta Phi president Jerome Green said, "Beta Phi has been a wonderful experience for me. I see our club as a group of guys who are doing their best to enjoy life at Harding while fulfilling their responsibilities to each other and to themselves." - Phillip Tucker Front row: Jamie Jaco, Calvi H.
