The science building, built in 1967, was dedicated to Dr. Joseph E. Pryor. The dedication was announced at commencement exercises in May 1989. Dr. Joe was well-known on campus for more than his infamous bow tie. He was associated with the school in many diversified areas. He served as an Academic Dean, Academic Vice President, Professor of Physical Science, AIC Faculty Representative, National Executive Director of Alpha Chi , and Petit Jean Advisor for 43 years. President Burks presided over the ceremony and introduced Dr. Neale Pryor, Academic Vice President, and Dr. Dean Priest, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, for prayer and comments. Dr. Joe made a response and the Band played the Alma Mater just before the unveiling of the nameplate. The track at Alumni Field was dedicated to James D. Key during halftime ceremonies at the Bisons - UAM game. The new track was made possible by a gift from Dr. Key, a 1961 graduate. Dr. Key was an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas.
