Etc. was a more-than-appropriate name for the branch of ARA that served the taste buds of students. Located outside the cafeteria, the store catered to thousands of customers. Etc. began as a wood-paneled, country style window selling mostly candy. The store was so popular that it was expanded during Christmas break into a small room behind the previously unused glass doors at the side of the cafeteria. Etc. was operated in the afternoons by Mary Boyce, a full-time ARA employee. The evening hours were staffed by students Ingrid Thompson and Angie Thomas. Ingrid felt the hours were Robin M. "I like seeing people buy things just to make other people happy." New items and services compounded the popularity of the store. Fruit baskets, stuffed animals, live flowers and other gift items accompanied the candy sold from the glass canisters behind the counter. The flowers were especially popular. "Everyone enjoys sending flowers," said Thompson. "Chocolates and gummy bears were also popular." During the spring semester one could buy candy, have it packaged with flowers and balloons, and have it delivered anywhere on campus. Etc. had the meager beginnings of a small idea but in one semester it grew into a thriving business. -Brian Speer SERVICE WITH A SMILE.
