But at suppertime on October 9, 1989, the back-rooms of the Heritage cafeteria were full of students doing those very Christopher L. ARA planned the event, built the booths, provided the prizes, hosted several watermeloneating contests for the guys and balloon-popping contests for the girls, and did all the cleaning up once it was all over. Mrs. Anniece Rackley, ARA's catering manager, said, "We had done it at some of our other schools and we wanted to do something fun to help the clubs, something else besides the normal holiday things." Everyone that played a game won a prize. Just for trying, a player had the option of choosing a sheriff's badge, an eye patch, a noise maker, or a free drink or doughnut. But for winning a game, like making a hole-inone at Gata's putt-putt booth, sailor caps, Diet Coke, hats, or a free slice of Itza DOWN THE HATCH. Free food and drink prizes were also available for second and third prizes. Chi Alpha Rho sponsored a balloon-pop, Shantih worked the Nerf basketball game, Phi Delta had a wet sponge throw, Ju Go Ju managed a can knock-down and Delta Gamma Rho had a football throw. Three men's clubs offered games also. . AGO worked a ring toss, Beta Phi had a nickel toss, and Delta Chi Delta held a water gun-candle game. Echad worked a ball drop and dart game. Lambda Sigma offered drinks for thirsty players, popcorn for those who were too busy to stop to eat, and helium balloons for those who really got into the carnival spirit. Approximately $160 was raised and turned over to Mrs. Patty Barrett, who, in turn, distributed the money to the various clubs. - Shelley Walls
