The Student Association, led by Craig Cheatham, focused their attention on getting the whole student body involved in the festivities. Previous years had left students feeling that Homecoming held significance only to the alumni; this year was to be different. The SA worked hard to plan activities that would generate excitement in the Homecoming musical and especially in the upcoming football game. "Brigadoon," a play set in Scotland, was selected as the Homecoming musical. Springing from the play, the SA proclaimed the theme of the week as "A Scottish Fling," Buttons and t-shirts were printed to help advertise the event. A quantity of 100 t-shirts priced at $8.75 MR. Going along with the theme, Friday was designed as "Plaid Day." All students were asked to wear plaid to show the Bisons their support. Plaid shirts, socks, buttons, ribbons, and jackets could be seen all over campus. According to Cheatham the purpose of all those activities was predominately to create enthusiasm in the football game against the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Many events were scheduled to happen during the game itself. Following tradition, a queen was selected by the student body. Errica Walker and her court reigned during the game. The SA also sponsored a banner contest. Each entrant was asked to submit a banner that was at least 10 feet long and to pep the team on to victory. The analytical Chemistry Club's entry won and as a result, they received $50 in prize money. As a yearly custom the SA also released a bunch of balloons to start off the game. Each class competed to see which could sell the most balloons. The junior class won the contest and more balloons were released that year than any other year. -Elaine Shearer
