After several minutes delay, the lights dimmed. But this night would be different from the rest, for there was no movie. A yell was heard from behind the movie screen. The lights came on and there they stood. And then they rocked. Johnny Cat, the band composed of five Harding students, rocked their way across campus and into the hearts of many. "They won my heart," said Angie Haley, "Johnny Cat is to me what the Beatles were to the 60's - so groovy." The band consisted of memhers Mark Beshirs, guitar: Bryan Pistole, lead vocals: Josh Touchton, drums; Todd White, bass guitar: and Randy Williams, lead guitar. The band made their debut in the spring of 1989 at the All Student Talent Show, where they were a big hit..Waiting until the fall semester, they played as the band on "Big 'D' TV". After playing during Student Impact during the fall of 1989 the band became known to all. To add to their success they continued to give concerts in the Student Center, on television, and at the Rialto. Freshman Nichole Mantle said, "I loved their concert. It was really fun and it was a nice break from studying." During the spring semester, Johnny Cat climbed to their peak before the band broke up, due to the graduation of band member Todd White. The band continued to play for "Big 'D' TV", as well as performing many more concerts. The band's final Searcy contest was at the Carmichael Community Center. Johnny Cat ended the semester with a Youth Rally Concert in St. Louis. Beth Hiffington said, "The group was just incredible, I'm going to really miss them." - Wayne Westerholm DOWN TOWN BLUES.
