Many people associated with Harding gave blood at the monthly Red Cross Blood Draws sponsored by OEGE and King's Men social clubs. Rebecca Shupe, OEGE blood draw di - rector, said that she was pleased with the success of the blood draws. According t o Red Cross spokesman Dan Carmen, "Harding has the highest percentage of students who donate among colleges in ArSMILE, THIS WON'T HURT A BIT. Senior Brenda Lundy waits for her turn to donate blood. Blood draws were held each month to benefit White County patients. - Photo by Jeff Montgomery. kansas. " An average of 100150 units are donated at each month's draw. Carmen also said that Harding was the single largest collection center in White County. Of the 2600 units collected in White County yearly, about 800 are donated at Harding. Carmen said this number was important to t he Red Cross because each unit given is separated so that it can benefit 3 people. Carmen said that the average number of units donated is running slightly behind last year but he is still happy with the efforts of Harding students. He said bad weather on the blood draw days and a change in facility were the reasons for the decline. A new aspect of the draws this year was an award sponsored by King's Men and OEGE to be given to the men and women's social clubs that had the highest percentage of members who donated blood. King's Men President James Scott and OEGE President Suzette LaRoche announced the new award during chapel at the beginning of the fall semester. Scott said, "The award was being offered in an attempt to get more students to give." LaRoche added, "We thought that including club spirit would give people more reason to give." - Myleea Hill
