Hawkins - East Al ton, IL Student Lectureship a Spiritual success F or the second year in a row the Student Association worked with JOY to put together what has become the annual Student Lectureship. After a very successful lectureship last year, this year saw an attendance that doubled, touching many students. The lectureship took place during the week of January 21-24 and was held as the College Church's spring meeting. The event began on Sunday with keynote speakers for the morning and evening services of the College Church. Monday through Wednesday featured chapel programs and separate classes for men and women. A keynote speaker spoke at the College Church each night during the lectureship. The lectureship gave Harding students the chance to hear their peers speak in a lectureship setting. The objective was to present students talking to students, sharing their understanding of God's Word. On Friday January 19th students participated in an all night prayer service held in the Student Center. Social clubs were assigned different times during the night to go to the Student Center for prayer. "The biggest reason for the lectureship's success is that it was turned over to God in the beginning," said Bobby Bluford, Spiritual Life Committee Chairman. "Even with the talented speakers that were chosen, the lectureship would have failed without prayer. There was a lot of participation in the all night prayer which helped the students prepare for the lectureship." Students were not only receptive to this year's lectureship but gave a tremendous amount of support. Students continually offered encouragement to those speaking and helped to support their efforts by attendance, which doubled over last years leetureship. Those students who did attend found powerful messages and many found ways to change their lives for the better. The administration and faculty offered support by attendance, advice and even some organization. Most teachers excused absences and some even excused classes to attend the daily lectures. Only two years after its conception the student lectureship has become an event that most students look forward to for an exciting and challenging experience. The lectureship had a focus of being used as an instrument to share God's word. As long as this focus is kept, there will be no limit to what effect future lectureships can have on the campus. - Mark Hodges CHAPEL ADDRESS.
