Four women occupied the leadership positions of president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer for their class. Even all the candidates in the election were female with the exception of one male presidential candidate. He was defeated by Sara Smith of Searcy. Julie Crosswhite was vice-president. Kristen Ford served as secretary and Myca Hagood was treasurer. All the ladies felt very positive about being a force of women representing their class. They all agreed that the men in the junior class didn't feel threatened by being led by four women in student government. "The situation wasn't planned. It just worked out that each position was held by a woman, which may or may not be a statement within itself," Smith said. In this case, women are as capable as men in leadership roles. But in other cases, men might have an advantage," Ford said. "Each role is different, and each gender would have its own advantages." "Leadership capabilities are individual to each person," Hagood said. "Some women are more capable than men and vice versa. Leadership abilities come through training, not on the basis of being male or female." Dr. Jerome Barnes, advisor to the Student Association, said that this is the first time he can remember JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS. Kristen Ford, Myca Hagood, Sara Smith, Julie Crosswhite. ficers were female. However, this class was also represented by four females last year as sophomores. But none of the officers this year held offices last · year. Four new women took the reins of leadership and led their class with pride and style. - Angie Mote
