W eek 16 and all was dead . Many students knew the latter half of the sixteenth week of a semester as dead week. It was a time that caught students between the excitement of going home for a while and of finishing classes and the dilemma of whether or not one really needed to study for that test the next day. Dead week had a knack for causing many students excess stress. Most thought of the week simply as a time when clubs were not allowed to have any activities, all in the name of furthering higher education. For others the week had a way of evoking strange behavior from somewhere deep down in the dark recesses of their Superego. Some studied, some played practical jokes on friends and on rare occasions some may even have been found around 2 a.m. at the Waffle House. Along with the different behavioral changes that took place, there were as many different opinions about the week as there were students enrolled. There were basically three schools of thought about the week. One was the person who held the belief that the week was unnecessary. "I think it's useless" said sophomore Greg Harrington. "Besides, there are more important things to worry about." While some saw no purpose, students of the second school of thought were fearful of the week. "Dead week is not dead, it is a living breathing nightmare, " said senior Don Alan Frost. Finally there were those who held to the third school of thought; that dead week was enjoyable. " I love it," said Senior Georgia Cox; " Everything is winding down and there are no more projects , only t he finals." While there were different thoughts about dead week in each student's mind, most agreed t hat what one made of dead week was all in how a person looked at it. One thing was certain; dead week made memories that last ed long after the listing for next days test was forgotten. - Mark Hodges
