Bible &Service: The Crew, Conquerors, Timothy Club and Good News Singers provided Spiritual leadership and service T he Good News Singers, Conquerors, the Crew, and the Timothy Club provided inspiration and service to each other and students throughout the year. The Timothy Club strove to "promote comraderie among majors in the College of Bible and Religion" and to "provide direction and encouragement in the various areas of ministry," according to the club's president, Gene Jones. They had a fall retreat highlighting their 1989 theme, "The Heart of Ministry." This was a time of fellowship, reflection, and challenge. Their October meeting, "Ministry and Missions," featured Bill Searcy, Harding's visiting Professor of Missions. In November, John Dale from Murray, Ky. spoke on "Staying in Ministry," and in December, faculty members from the Harding Graduate School of Religion spoke on the effectiveness of study on long-term ministry. The Good News Singers served as representatives for the Bible department. They sang in chapel and for various youth group activities. Their goal was to glorify God and to communicate emotions to people in a way that nothing but singing can. The group had eight members and was started in the fall of 1985. Conquerors performed for many youth groups in Arkansas and many other states. Their goal was to give "spiritual messages through skits," said member Debbie Bitting. Their skits were uplifting and most of them were Conquerors' originals. The Crew was a service organization that had about 600 members. They divided up into teams of fifteen and about four teams worked each Saturday. They helped people with anything they needed help with. They advertised their services, last summer, by sending fliers to older or sick members of the community. Some of the people needed help with yard work, house cleaning, or getting their house ready for the winter. Most of the people they helped were not members of the Church. - Lilli Carlton GETTING TO KNOW YOU. Mr. Tom Alexander talks with a Timothy club member after a meeting.
