Mu~Ic GRour~ 1 Co~cer~ Ch~ir, Chorus, University Singers ' A major change took place within the Music Department at the beginning of this year. Chorale changed its name, A Capella retired and two new groups were established. The group previously known as Chorale changed to Harding University Chorus. The group, made up of 60 members, met daily to prepare for its performances. The group planned a tour to Boston, stopping to make DO RE ME. They planned to leave the day after graduation in May. The group A Capella retired this year due to the retirement of director Ken Davis. In its place a new group was established with the name of Concert Choir. The group was composed of about 80 members and met under the direction of Dr. Arthur Shearin. They performed for Churches of Christ in Arkansas and in various other states. The choir took a tour to Florida over Spring Break to perform for the Churches there. The second group newly formed was known as the University Singers. They met three times a week and had 32 members. This mixed chorus sang sacred and secular music. They sang for civic clubs and other local organizations. Both the University Singers and the Harding University Chorus were directed by Dr. Clifton Ganus III. All three of these performing choruses attended the Christian College Choral Festival at Freed-Hardman College in January. University Singers, Concert Choir, and University Chorus emerged this year with new names, faces, and activities. -Janelle McFarland IN SONG. University Chorus performed during lectureship week.
