Mu~Ic GROU~~ 1 Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, A Tempo • • Thr ee music -o riented groups on campus, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, and A Tempo, served as further opportunities for music students or tho e who just enjoyed the field of music. Chamber Orchestra was a performing music group with a variety of activities and concerts throughout the year. Chamber Orchestra worked with t he mu ical during t he fall. The group performed with the musical 'Carouse l" during Homecoming weekend. During t he spring, t he orche tra performed during a chapel program and held a sp ring concert during Youth Forum/Spring Sing weekend. Instruments in t he orche tra included violin, viola, 64 Keeping with groups cello, bass, oboe, flute, and clarinet. The orchestra was under the direction of Patricia Cox, a longtime member of the Chamber Orchestra and the director for the past two years. The Concert Band was an auditi on group, although not in the usual way . Students auditioned for this particular group on tape. The students were given numbers , so that the auditi on was solely based on their performance. By conducting the auditions in this fashion the students were assured of being given an equal chance to be selected. The Concert Band's highlighted performance was during the fa ll when they performed during Ronald Reagan's visit to Little Rock. The students felt the full impact of just who they would be playing for after having been searched by security officers. During the fall semester the Concert Band also performed as the holiday band during a chapel program. A Tempo was a national organizat ion on campus. The group was made up of music department majors who planned to teach in t he future. A Tempo was sponsored by Dr. J. Warren Casey and Dr. George Baggett. -Ky la Martin FLUTIST.
