Big-D epic hits TV-19 " . . . And now the top ten reasons why Brian Mashburn should eat the goldfish." Okay, okay, don't panic, so maybe you don't remember the "greatest ' program ever to air on Channel 19" (as described by its fans) which was hosted, as well as created, by Darren Bonham. The title of that "epic" program was "Big 'D' TV", a sit-down interview show which just happened to be created for late night viewmg. Its format was taken from the hit-show, "Late night with David Letterman." And never had the late night programming on campus been hit so hard as when "Big 'D' TV" was conceptualized. What could possibly make students turn on their televisions and tune in to Channel 19 programming? The answer to that started September 23 and was found at 11:09 each Thursday evening, only John Jeffery Gilreath - Rocheste r, MN . Aci:ounting. on cable-channel 19. A variety of wrestling, exotic foods, and musical guests made up the agenda for each week's show. The highlight of the entire season of Big "D" programming came when the "1988 Big 'D' Christmas Extravaganza" was held in front of an audience of 300 or more in the George S. Benson Auditorium. The Christmas Extravaganza was Big D's Big gamble. It was this particular show, which happened to be the fall season's finale, that would judge his season a success or failure. Much to the audience's desire, the show was a raging success. When asked what word he would use to describe his show, Darren responded , Caroline Denise Gist - Rac ine, WI. Communication Disorders. It is supposed that the attempt to break the world record of the number of "moon-pies" consumed in 15 minutes was the key ingredient for success; maybe the "Stupid Human Tricks" that were exhibited; maybe the large number of special guests that Big "D" had on his show or maybe the song "Tuna Casserole" that the house band performed m their "finest hour." This writer will never really know exactly the kBy to success for the Big "D" Christmas show, but he does know that nothing before on the campus station had ever made such an impact on the viewing audience. -Mark Story WHAT'S NEXT. Darren Martin, senior, wonders what Todd White and Brian Mashburn, both juniors, could possibly have in store for the show. The show was taped weekly in the T.V. studio. -Photo by Jeff Montgomery. GUEST OF HONOR. For every show, Darren Martin, Big "D", would have a series of guests. The show resembled a David Letterman show. -Photo by Jeff Montgomery.
