Beliech assumes new 1~ position after graduation .. J ~ i ' ' 1 ., Steve Beliech was not a typical ·student at Harding. Most students were here for four or five years, obtained a degree, maybe a spouse, and depart for what is known as the real world. Steve didn't do that. Beliech came to Harding in 1976 as a sophomore transfer from Pensacola Junior College. In 1980 he received a B.S. in Management. After graduation, Steve worked at Camp Wyldwood with the campers. It was during that time when he decided to remain in Searcy. Beliech added, "I enjoyed the environment and I was touched by the surroundings." After working at camp, he acquired a job at one of the local radio stations as a salesman. He discovered "selling" was not for him. Later, he became a news reporter for the same station. Throughout the next four years, Beliech remained in Searcy, working a various places. It was in 1985 that he decided to return to Harding. This time he entered the masters in Accounting Program. While working on his master's, Beliech became very active in the Student Activities Committee and became assistant dorm manager for Keller Hall. In August 1988 Beliech received his master's, along with a job offer from a large bank located in West Palm Beach, FL. An agreement had been made for him to remain at Harding one semester so he could prepare for his C.P.A. exam. During that time he continued as assistant dorm manager at Keller and helped with the Student Association. On December 17, one day before he was to leave for Florida, Dr. Jerome Barnes offered Beliech a job as Assistant Dean of Men. That afternoon he accepted the position. Staying at Harding had not been in his plans. "I didn't want to remain here forever or to cling on. I did want to come back later, maybe to teach. I just didn't think I would stay." At the end of the Spring semester, Beliech will be taking over some of the duties of Barnes. Barnes will be the new Vice President of Student Affairs. Beliech will be helping with concerts, movies, the residence halls, Student Impact, and more. Concerning goals for the future, Beliech commented, "In the past the University did a good job in preparing activities for the students, NEW POSITION.
