BOARD & COUNCIL Governing bodies play major role in growth and change T he Board of Trustees and the President's Council both were influential in Harding's development. In the past, the board inaugurated had David B. Burks as president. Other responsibilities involved finalizing the decisions concerning the future of the school. The governing body of Harding met each fall and spring to make the crucial decisions. The President's Council, with a current membership of 350, met semi-annually on the campus. Most of the time spent was in discussion groups based on individual interests. The groups ranged from bible and business to communication and student life. By meeting in special interest groups, the council felt they were better able to communicate ideas and making recommendations concerning the work at Harding. Without these two bodies, Harding would not be the same. They decide the direction in which Harding is to go and determine what needs to change. -Sharon Bowles BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
