1988-1989 Yearbook

Daily chapel services have been a part of Harding's prog~am since her beginnmg. Chapel was the only time throughout the day that the entire student body and faculty were together. "It's a great way to start your day since you are able to see all of your friends," said Kelly Fanning, senior. Daily devotionals were held at the beginning of chapel. A'Lana Dean, sophomore, said, "Chapel is a time for the whole student body and faculty, as a group, to worship and sing praises to God. It sets us in the right frame of mind before we attend classes, and for the rest of the day." Chapel programs enDevotionals, programs, and skips were all part of the Chapel experience lightened and entertained both faculty and students alike, throughout the year. Wellness Week brought with it speakers on physical and emotional health issues. The week on, "Lifetime Relationships: Friends, Fellowship and Family," included a "Chapel wedding," where Dr. and Mrs. Carr restated their wedding vows. During chapel programs, we were entertained by the Music department and enticed into membership in clubs and organizations on campus. We voted on representatives and queens, saw giveaways and listened to Student Association President Mark Moore's announcements. Ross Cochran and Monte Cox shared with us a new version of "The Night Before Christmas." The cozy little tale began: "Twas the night before finals and all through the school, not a creature was studying, not anyone who's cool .. . " Professor Don Diffine as Nerdly Green - back, Patriot, declared his presidential candidacy in chapel on November 1. Greenback was a write-in candidate from the "surprise party." Greenback said, "I figure I have got a 50-50 chance - either I win or I do not." He didn't become our 41st president, but he did make us evaluate our political system. -Jennifer R.
