Dean Priest's duties centered around his position on the faculty of mathematics as well as his role as dean of the college of arts and sciences. March, 1987 was the month for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Convention, held in Little Rock, AR. Priest served as chairman of its Program Committee. July brought his direction of an AEGIS Program entitled , "Mathematical Modeling: Solutions to Real World Problems." In August , Priest spoke at the meeting of Arkansas Teachers of Mathematics at Henderson State University. When asked what in specific he was doing to fulfill his duties as dean , Priest replied , "In order to enhance and expand the PASS (Program for the Academic Success of Students) . Funding for this activity was approved for a three-year period and could amount to $150,000.'' /J obby Coker, dean of edu~ation , was an asset Hardmg was very proud of. He was in his third year as committee chair of Elementary Education , Middle School, and Educational Examiners Certification Review Committee. Last year, he was one of only 134 people nationwide to be selected to serve on the Board of Examiners for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. He also raised the standards of our education department to match the new requirements of the NCATE. This included making student teachers include 12 weeks of student teaching in their curriculum. /Veale Pryor, Ph .D. , not only ·contineud to serve as vice President of Academic Affairs , but took on the position of Acting Dean of the School of Bible and Religion as well. What was formerly the Bible DepartDeans ment became the School of Bible and religion in August of this year. A committee assigned to choose a fulltime dean chose Pryor to assume duties until that person was formed. Despite his full schedule, Pryor was known as " the man who never forgets a name." His concern for others and his tremendous speaking ability made him a favorite for lectures, such as the Harding and FreedHardeman lectureships.
