Burks, dean of the School. "Striving for excellence is the heart of our philosophy," he commented . "While the idea may seem a bit lofty on the surface, being average is simply not enough. The concept of servant leadership and teamwork is illustrated by Jesus as our model. An effective leader is not a Christian and a businessman, but rather a Christian businessman. Our goal is to be always striving, growing, moving toward being better. Our greatest challenge and very reason for existence is the true integration of faith and learning." The basic philosophy of the School of Business that, perhaps more than ever before, today's students need an education which stresses excellence, teaches basic skills, and stresses issues of values and questions of ethics resulted in a student-centered curriculum concerned with personal development and socially relevant studies. Harding students were extraordinarily successful in competition with students from colleges and universities across the nation both in team contests and in the job market. In collaboration with the Arthur Young and Company office in Little Rock, an innovative spring semester intern program for junior and senior accounting majors was begun in January, 1986. The work experience gained by these students during this very busy period for public accounting firms will enable the participants upon graduation to enter the job market at the senior, experienced level. The three internees for this first year were Lisa Miller, Chad Necessary, and Andy
