The librarians considered themselves catalysts for the use of the lib - ra·ry resources rather than "guardians of the times." Winnie Bell , librarian, was promoted to the rank of full professor effective August 23, 1985, and Mr. Craig Beard, reference librarian, to the rank of assistant professor. Suzanne Spurrier, circulation librarian, returned after a year's leave of absence for graduate study at Indiana University in Bloomington having completed the M.S.L.S. degree in Library and Information Services at the August graduation. Mr. Frank Hayes pursued the Master's degree in public history at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock on a part-time basis. Courses he completed made clear the need for Harding to develop good archives for the depository of valuable historical documents.
