Dr. Dennis M . Organ, department chairman, spent the fall semester, accompanied by his family , in Europe as one of the teachers in the Harding University in Florence, Italy , program. At the conclusion of the HUF Program he spent a few days in England visiting places of great literary significance. On Dec. 15, Rodger L. Brewer , assistant professor of English, received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Earlier in the semester, Dr. Brewer had completed and successfully defended his dissertation of "Sentence Combining in the Writing Workshop: A Study of the Effects of Two Methods on the Writing Quality and Writing Apprehension of College Freshmen." At the May 12, 1985, commencement at Harding, Brewerreceived a distinguished Teacher Award based heavily on the evaluation of students in his classes.
