Ed majors form new club (9 ne of the many services that Harding offers its students is a system of pre-professional clubs. These offer information as well as an opportunity for contact with those already working in the particular field. Two such clubs related to education are A Tempo and TECH . A T empo was composed of 15 music education majors this year a nd is the local chapter of the Student Music Educators National Conference. The club had two main meetings; one in October in which they went to the state music teachers' meeting in Little Rock, and a second in February which included a trip to the state convention of music teachers in Pine Bluff. At the convention, students got to see performances of an all-state chorus, two all-state bands and an all-state orchestra. Also in February, club members took a trip to Memphis State University to hear the performance of a chamber orchestra and visit the music library there. Dr. George Baggett, co-sponsor of the club with M r. Warren Casey, said that he felt A Tempo gave students a very good chance to see what music education offers and to become acquainted with both methods and area teachers. The Teacher Education Chapter at Harding (TECH) provided educat ion majors with valuable information about their area of study as well. Subjects discussed ranged from how to write a resume to the role of teachers as public servants. Under a new name and new organization this year, the club, formerly SNEA (Student National Educators Association), also showed appreciation for local teachers through various dinners and held a session to acquaint incoming freshmen with educational opportunities. Dr. Dan Lucas, sponsor of the club, said that members decided not to become a part of the state organization (Student Arkansas Educators Association) but instead to remain a local entity. The club met monthly and had 40 members, mainly elementary education majors. Both clubs look forward to continued growth in the future and hope to b e able to serve students and the community by their efforts. .4 A Tempo A Tempo.
