Clubs befriend by serving C[) actylology and Friends are two areas of service provided by organizations on campus. The Dactylology Club and the Friends program are both related to work with the College Church of Christ and provide services in related areas to community members. About 35 students are involved in the Friends program. The students are assigned children from the community to befriend. One-on-one, or with a group, the "friends" go to movies, play games , go out for ice cream or just get together to talk on a weekly basis . Several group outings included a picnic at Camp Wyldewood, a trip to the Little Rock Zoo, and a Christmas party hosted at the College Church of Christ. The name of the program was changed this year from the "Big Brothers / Big Sisters;, to "Friends" as Coliege Church took over Big Sisters. Dr. Ed Wilson, sponsor of the project, said, " 'Friends' removes some of the stigma associated with 'Big Brothers' and provides more flexibility to the program." "They (the children) just need somel;>ady to show they care," said Sue Ann Eichenberger, a participant in the program. "The neat thing is that we get as much fun out of it as they do." Dactylology is the art of communicating with sign language. The purpose of the club was to serve the community by teaching signs to bridge the gap between the hearing and the deaf, said Becky Leavell, the club's president. The club hosted classes in sign language on campus for beginners and advanced signers. Members travel occasionally to Little Rock to worship with the deaf congregation at Sylvan Hills Church of Christ. 11tt Dactylology Club Dactylology Club.
