Groups broadcast to public arding's radio station, KHCA, gave interested students a chance to gain experience working on a professional radio station. KHCA's format consisted of top 40's all-hit radio; however, on most nights at 11:00 p .m. a special show catered to tastes ranging from jazz to new wave . Staff member Shari Nelson stated, "Since we do have special shows, you get to hear things you can't hear anywhere else in Arkansas." This year, two major changes were scheduled for the station: KHCA's frequency was moved to the middle SOO's on the AM dial for better reception, and the call letters were also changed in the spring. KHCA was also responsible for giving away prizes to avid listeners. The radio station gave away Hunger Survival Kits, which consisted of coupons used for free food from The College Inn. In December, KHCA, in conjunction with the Levi's Blues Crew, gave away free pairs of Levi's 501 blue jeans. Students at Harding also had the opportunity to win movie tickets to the weekly film sponsored by the Student Association Movie Committee. As well as a radio station, the Department of Communications also oversaw the university's television station, Channel 12. It appeared on the cable channels. The news, directed and anchored by Harding students and produced by faculty sponsors, was aired each night at 6:30. the broadcast was entitled T.V. 12 News.
