KHeA 74 Mass media News Broadcast Features This marked the 20th consecutive year of KHCA on the Harding campus. The 720 AM statio'; provided music and news for students and a hands-on education for those interested in broadcasting. The station's air-play concentrated on .. "newer" sounds, but sticking with the topAO format. Special shows were also featured including : TLC (a romanticmusic program), Jammin' (a Soul show), Wave Your Rights (a new wave show) , and Off The Record (an album preview show). News broadcasts ran daily featuring world and campus reports. Sports, also, were covered twice a day with occasional coverage of intercollegiate sporting events. Lou Butterfield was sponsor for KHCA and worked closely with the student directors. Kerry Smith was station manager and supervised James Kiggins (on-air coordinator) , John Super (music director), Alan Greenhaw (news director), Alan Keirn (production director), Cliff Plummer (sales director) and Debbie Grant (traffic and public relations director) . t~1f£: It 's midnight and the set was quiet. The lights have finally cooled after a long day of taping. On the shelf lay several video cassettes, visible proof of a hard day's work. The crew had finally gone home , but the station still lingered in their minds. Everyone involved realized both the demands and potential of the station. Channel 12, a cable station available to homes in the Searcy area, was almost entirely operated by students. Lou Butterfield, assistant professor of mass communications, acted as operations manager and advisor for the student crew. Although the job was very time consuming, Butterfield found it worthwhile. "This is one of the few schools in the country where undergraduate students can get hands-on experience in a television studio," he said , "I feel TV 12 is a tremendous educational tool.
