No, Harding is not proud of her team because it is the most powerlul ever to represent her on the grid iron but she is proud of the team because it is composed of good, clean, hard -fighting, courageous boys." This was a tribute that was as true in 1985 as in 1929. The student player-coach in 1929 was Norman "Buck" Arnold, one of several outstanding three-sport athletes during the Morrilton era, many of whom became successful educators. Other successful three-sport performers during the first decade were M.E. "Pinky" Berryhill, J .E. "Black" Berryhill, Borden Bradley, Hubert Hunter , Guy Dale "Toppie" McReynolds , Sidney "Hoss' Merrick and Sidney 'Sip" Ruby. Outstanding twosporl athletes included Wade Ruby, Billy Norris and Tatum Mills. - Outstanding athletes included L. O. Sanderson and John Bannister. Dr. Wade Ruby later served many years as Chairman of the English Department at Pepperdine College and as an effective gospel preacher. Sanderson , Bannister and Norris became prominent preachers. In December of 1929, Harding was voted into membership in the Arkansas Athletic Association. The basketball team that year finished in a tie for third place in the AAA and, in 1932, Merrick received honorable mention for the AAA basketball team. The Bisons won the AAA baseball championship in 1932 and tied for the championship in 1933. Football was discontinued after the 1931 season and tennis was emphasized in the spring of 1932. The 1933-34 season was the last at Morrilton and one of the freshman basketball
