Time Out for "Good Behavior" As campus pressures closed in and the daily schedules became more routine , the need to escape from campus life became as equally pressing as the list of things that lay undone on the desk. While some forms of diversions were an hour in a swing or a trip to Wal-Mart, a choice of many was an afternoon at Wyldewood. Whether for thirty minutes or for two hours , Harding students could always be found in the wooded camp ground. Some chose sitting qUietly on the edges of Bee Rock to reflect inwardly or to e njoy the beautiful scenery. Devotiona ls at dusk or around a campfire were common; communing with God out-of-doors provided a spiritual motivation and spark that often encouraged students to "keep going ." Traipsing down unknown pathways to "explore" proved to be entertaining if not also somewhat dirty . Hiking excursions up (or down) the cliff sides provided a competitive , cha ll enging opportunity. A feeling of accomplishment could a lways be derived after reaching the summit. Othe rs chose to stay down on the ground, expressing themse lves in a manner peculiar to Harding. Club names , names of couples or a simple message - or the remnants of these - could often be seen on the ground , informing those of who had been there recently . Taking a break from cafeteria food was another reason for leaving campus. A picnic in the sunny meadow or along the rocks was a simple but e njoyable meal. Others chose to forego the library that seems so stuffy on a sunny spring day to enjoy studying in the sun. While campus life , with a ll of its many aspects , was the heart of college , an afternoon away from the hustle and bustl e often provided the setting to spend quality time with those special friends. Lasting friendship bonds were formed by caring and sharing and spending time together. Camp Wyldewood , in its beautiful serene setting, provided the atmosphere and the opportunity for bonds to be fo rmed , strengthened and renewed, f!.~ - Penny Bible On the Rocks.
