This year marked the first year since high school she has played competitive basketball. "It was hard to get back into the swing of playing again," said Shipman. "Many senior girls found the conditioning difficult." In high school, Shipman felt she made more goals to work on than basketball for awhile. When she reached college she knew she would be busy with studying and worrying about graduation. When Harding announced that they were going to have women's basketball team, Shipman, found herself yearning to play again. Jill Sllipman makes fast break to the basketball aHd puts up a shot. Shipman, a member of Gata social club, commented on the difference between playing for your club and your school. 'The competition on the club level was so intense that many times there would be hard feelings between clubs. When you took many of the same girls and put them on the Lady Bisons the competitiveness seemed to form into a bond strong enough to overcome defeat. We all played for one cause, Harding." Shipman was impressed by the equal treatment the Lady Bisons received from the faculty. "The faculty support was encouraging. Many faculty members were at every game. Coach Bucy especially went out of his way to accomodate the Lady Bisons by loaning the equipment and shuffling the Bisons practice times. Shipman, although a senior, she planned to stay at Harding to get her masters in P.E. Shipman commented on the season, "It was exciting to be the fist women's basketball team at Harding. I loved playing.'" _. Tami Rhinehart Women's Basketball 73
