In 1981 they fini shed in 22nd place and in 1983 they fini shed in 21st pl ace, just one place from the team goal. The Harding pla yers diu as well in - di vi duall y ci S they did as a team. David Redding, afte r be ing named runner-up in 1982 for the Art hur Ashe Tenni s Award , won the honor in 1983. He also was named to the All-AIC and All -District 17 teams. Rees Ll oyd was the onl y Bison to fin ish the season undefeated. In those nine years Elliott has won the AIC and NAIA District 17 "Coach of the Year" Award the past four years. As a student Elliott attended Harding College and played on the 1965-69 tennis teams. During his junior and senior years at Harding, he played on AIC Championship squads. Elliott also competed both of those years in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. When not on the courts playing or practicing, Elliott was ac tive in his socia l club , Lambda Sigma, and on the 1969 Petit Jean as sports editor. Elliott was a member of Outstanding Athletes of America (OCAA) , and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Elliott gradua ted with a 3.87 grade point average and received the 1969 Cliff Shaw ScholarAthlete Award. He was the eighth Bison to win the award. Elliott also won the Bison's 1969 Most Valuable Player in tennis which he sha red with Dean Bawcom. Charles Dismuke , a two year letterman from Atlanta, Georgia , said , "Coach cares as much for one player as he does fo r ano ther; it does no t ma tter whether he is the first seed or last seed on the team . He stresses the ' team .' Everyone is impo rtan t . Coach Elliott is just an all-round grea t guy and a fine Christian. " Dr. Olree , Athletic Di rector, had th is to say about Coach Elliott . "David is highly competitive and has been since he was a student here. He is a man of strategy and technique. He can explain how to do something as well as show the players how to do it.
