With the change from slo-pitch to fast· pitch , the Lady Bisons had to change their style as well as their hitting. They 'gai ned respect after having played at home for the first time in front fo friends, fellow student s, and the admini stration. This respect was earned by the courage and fighting spirit the Lady Bi sons demonst rated throughout the season. l@ 1. 1983 Softball Team. Front row: Kemp. Goodill. Sechler, Hall , Hallaman. "J've been playing ball for as long as I can remember," said Tiny Fraley. Fraley, one of eight children, grew up in Turrell , Arkansas. She began playing sports at an early age. "Everyone in the family played ball , even my mother. I remember when we would go out in toe yard and play catch. Fraley learned to run fast from her pldest brothers, who she used to torment and then would have to run for her life. "That's how 1 got started in cross country, " laughed Fraley. Fraley financed her own schooling by dropping out for a semester so she could earn enough to enroll once again. When she was in school she did not sit around studying or meeting new friends she participated in sports. Fraley played in three of the four sports for women on the intercollegiate level. She played on Harding's first softba ll , cross country, and basket· ball teams; being on the first team of each of these sports meant a great deal to Fraley. She enjoys challenges and thrives on pressure . Although this season's softball team didn 't do as well as they were expected to do, Fraley tried to get the team to produce some runs by sacrificing herself in an effort to move the runners up. Even when they didn ' t win, Fraley was there to boost morale and team spirit. Fraley was not only an athlete but a fine Christian young lady . When she was asked about women getting athletic scholarships, she said, "It really would be nice but the world can do without another athlete , however, it really can't do without good preachers. I think the money should be spent on the Christian Communications Pro· gram instead. " Fraley gives every sport she plays her all and the fans that come to watch appreciate her en· thusiasm. The reason she enjoys playing? She's having fun! f@ - David D. Wall Softball S3
