The staff of the Wildcat , the Harding Academy newsletter, stayed busy trying to keep the schoo l updated on the latest news. The staff consisted of reporters from every class and from each club . Three publications were put out each semester wi th the purposes of informing the students and alumni of events that had already taken place and those that were to come. Editor Marty Spears stated his chief goal to be improving school spirit. This paper offered amusement and information to it s readers and let students express their feelings and opinions on many subjects. Members of the Petit Jean staff, although mostly rook ies at fi rst , quickly found themselves involved in what was perhaps the most ac tive special interest group in school. Under the direction of Editor Sheila Underwood , they learned the basics of journalism, and combining these with their _ Kl'n ShAckl'lford _ Uslil' Dowl1s own creativity, time, and hard work, they set out to capture the memories of the 1983-84 schoo l year. Although the task at times seemed overwhelming with its seemingly endless variety of jobs, the staff members finally got a ll the pictures taken and chosen , the copy written and printed , the layouts drawn up, the necessary adjustments and corrections made, and by February the final pages were mailed with a sigh of relief. In spite of the hard work and amount of time the Petit Jean required , the staffers felt a sense of satisfaction perhaps not found in other areas, knowing that their time and effort would last for years to come and would be enjoyed by many. rqp 1.
