Though the season was not an outstanding one, it will stand out in the history of Wildcat tradition. Many of the girls had competed on summer league teams, bringing much-needed experience to the team. Tension mounted high before the fir st game, exploding into elation as victory became reality. Though the girls lost some of their nervousness as the season progressed, the excitement was never lessened. I The male members of the st u- I dent body met this advance for the fema les with mixed emotions. Most were unsure of the effect the program would have on the girls' enthusiasm for their sports, but expected to get some good entertainment for the girls' games. They got a littl e more than amusement, for, as Bill Diles, principal, sai d, "Our girls were competitive . we could have played for the conference championship. " Coach Gary Rhodes said , "We go t off to an excellent start, wining ijgainst Central High School. Our senio rs were very valuable to the team, and we built up an encouraging amount of momentum to keep up Wildcat spirit.
