__PEP AND PRIDE Groups Boost Spirit The senior high cheerleaders wo rked toward building school spirit ea rl y in the summer when they attended the Freed-Hardeman College Chee rl eading Clinic. They rece ived fou r Superior ribbons, the spirit stick for one day, and the "Outs tandi ng High School Squad" trophy. Melanie Bridges, captain of the cheerleaders, also rece ived the "Out standing High School Cheerleade r" trophy. The squad brought back many new I chants, cheers, and new cheering I techniques which helped raise I schoo l spirit . I Wildca t spirit exp loded at the annual school mixer in August. I The seni or cheerleaders did a routine to "Electric Avenue" with speCial lighting effects, and the junior cheerleaders performed a snappy routine to the song "Be Good, Johnny. " Both squads of chee rleaders roused the students' sp irit in the first peg rally of the year. The senior cheerleade rs inst igated many new spirit-raising activities for the Wildcats. These included having the entire school wear a spirit button with a saying on it each week and wearing red and whi te every Friday. One pep rall y that highlighted the foot ball season made use of the Searcy fi re truck . The girl s came riding in on the truck shout ing , "Get Fired Up!" They showered the students with hot cinnamon candy and mi ni ature foo tballs, and led many other cheers promot ing a "fired up" spirit. All the efforts of the girl s helped to produce anot her conference champi onship for the Wi ldca ts. The junior high cheerleaders did an exce llent job of boosting spirit among the young st udents, helping lead the Wildcats to victory many times. The enthusiasm and sp irit of those nine talented individuals created a super year for the junior Wildcats. The Pep Club was a vi tal part of the Wildca t spirit. A chief responsibilit y thi s year was making crea ti ve run -throughs for the football season, They also tackled the responsibili ty of decorating for Homecom ing. CW 1.
