Delta Mu Delta Kappa Delta Pi Kappa Pi Phi Alpha Theta Pi Kappa Delta Delta Mu Delta, a national honor society for students in the fields of business and economics, se rved to recognize outstanding students in those areas. To be considered for membership , a studen t was required to have completed 60 or more hours of undergraduate work with a 3.2 or better grade point average. Also expected to rank in the top 20 percent of the School of Business, members were chosen according to leadership potential and character. Taking its Greek letters from the English meaning of "Through knowledge, power, " the club stressed a strength in the individual 's ability to manage effectively and creatively for social and economic growth . T he 60 members determined to promote higher scholarship in training for business while recognizing scholast ic attainment in business subjects. Emphasizing their goals, they sponso red the School of Business Awards banquet and conducted a large induction ceremony for new members. Upon .entering the society, each member recited this pledge : "I promise to faithfully uphold and promote the lofty goals and ideals set forth by this organization. " A national honor society of education , Harding's Nu Lambda chapter of Kappa Delta Pi existed primarily to promote leadership in education. in those who sought careers as teachers. Open to both graduates and undergraduates, the soc iety required that its members come exclusively from the teacher education program and acquire at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on 60 or more credit hours. 242 Honor societies Students Gain Honors Through Achievements and Dedication Followi ng two initiat ion ceremonies, one in the fall and one in the spring, more than 100 membe rs participated ac tively in Kappa Delta Pi, Many of the students in the society took on tutoring as a service project, offering academic aid in a variety of subjects and learning about teaching on a first-hand basis, Among the active membership was graduate student Mike Lyle , selected by the National Budget Committee 'to attend the national convocation of the society in Montreal in the spring. Acknowledging excellence in the field of art, the Kappa Pi Honora ry Art Fraternity held membership open to anyone who had completed twelve semester hours in ar t with a 3.0 grade point average. The group 's goals were aimed at upholding the highest ideals of liberal education, and raising the ~t andards of productive artistic work among students, furnishing the highest reward for conscientious effor t in furt hering the best interest of art. Severa l entries were made in the nat iona l photography contest, with two first and second places captured by Darryl Truitt and Susan Dean respectively . - lohn I. Radcliffe
