Orators Practice Skills and Talents to Perfect Art Campus Players Forensics Team A variety of interests characterized the Campus Players, with members having majors as varied as business, biology, art , and elementary education. The "opportunity for membersh ip into Campus Players was extended when an individual earned fifty merit points. The points were earned by technical work, such as construction , costuming and lighting. and by acting in a campus production. In preparation for homecoming weekend, the thespians sponsored a workday to complete construction on the "Fiddler on the Roof" set. To top off the day, members -picnicked at Spring park and played games afterward. Student-directed one-act plays were also sponsored by Campus Players. Accord ing to Rona Lyon , "members of Campus Players involved themselves in all aspects of drama here at Harding. Rllddiffe The Forensics Team, a combination of debating and individual speech competitors, traveled extensively during the schoo l year to compete in intercollegiate tournaments across the country. The team at tended between 12 and 1S contests every year and competed in a nat ional tournament every other year. They traveled regularly through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky , Louisiana , Illinois and Arkansas representing Harding and debating other college teams. According to faculty sponsor Patrick Garner, membership requirements include only that of having a wi ll ingness to practice and a desire to attend the competitions. Sixteen speech students gladl y filled the criteria and practiced often to perfect their art. Team members were encouraged to develop their sk ills and talents in a number of speech events to increase versati li ty. I'@
