Academic Reinvolvement Committtee of the Arkansas Psychological Association. Dr. McKelvain served as sport psychology consultant to the U.S. Junior Na tional Men 's Gymnastics Team and as a liaison member of the U.S. Gymnastics Federa tion Junior Olympic Program Board of Directors. In January , he presented invited lectures on sport psychology at the U.S. Olympic Training Cen ter. An indepth curriculum study was conducted by the department and an attempt was made to develop a syllabus for each course. Under the direction of Dr. Walter Porter, the department undertook, with prior approval of the administration , to raise funds through a one-time gift from alumni majors to provide computers for the psychology laboratories. Members of the department were active in their professional organ izations. Dr. McKelvain attended meetings of the American Society of Cl inical Hypnosis in Dall as, and the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy in Washington, D.C.. Dr. Moore attended workshops on Christian and Human Sexuality in Washington , D.C. , and Survival Skills of the Eighties in St. Louis. Dr. Thomas attended the annual meeting of the Society for Medical Hypnoanalysis in Orlando, FL.. All members were active in the Arkansas Psychological Association. Student Chris Riley received the second-place award from the APA for his research presentation "Self-awareness and Motivated Distora tion on Personality Tests. " In the fall of 1983, there were 76 declared psychology majors and the department generated 1,637 student semester hours of credit.
