- John J. Radcliffe The department conducted a History Day for middle, junior high, and senior high school students in central Arkansas. The department also made a study of career opportunities in the social sciences and restudied curricular offerings. Several graduates of the department received scholarships for graduate study, including Allen Layne at Ohio State University, and LaJarle Hogan, Duane Crowell, and Max Ramsey at Arkansas State University. Ronald McLaughlin , a 1982 graduate, achieved the highest record among the 1982-83 first-year law students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law . Joel Ragland, a 1983 Harding graduate, received the prestigious Herff Scholarship for the Humphreys School of Law a t Memphis State University , the second consecutive year for a Harding studen t to received this scholarship . For the 1983 fall semester, there were 80 declared majors in the department and courses ·offered by the department generated 2,724 student semester hours of credit. For 1982-83, the department graduated 19 majors with eight of these being in public administration, the major currently being chosen by most prelaw students. l\llJ 1.
