Radcliffe Spirituality Stressed Through Year Knights and Phi Delta aimed to im· prove the spiritua l and social unity between their brother and s ister clubs in many ways. Tuesday nights meant a specia l time of sharing for ma ny of the club members and others on campus, as did Thu rsdays when Herman and Loi s Brown opened their home to co ll ege students to have devotiona ls with their fam il y. The Browns particula rl y en· joyed having students in to encourage their ch ildren. Chris tmas was made very special for the Brown chi ld ren when the two clubs hosted a party made possible by the clubs' fund·raising efforts. "The kids just loved it; they .a lways do," said David Hill , a membe r of Knights who had the opportunity to work with the family. " It was great to see their reac· tions:' he added. Phi Delta continued its support of Lucas, an "adopted" Brazi li an boy who became a Christian du ring the yea r. Unity of these two clubs was e n· couraged by a sec re t brother and sister program. " It was fun giving something to a sec ret brother, letting him know someone was thinking about him that day," said Kim Roberson of Phi Delta. She rma Gentry's home was the site of a Phi Delta Halloween party and the last meeting of the fall semester. A fall camping trip to Petit Jean Mountain strengthened ties in Knights. Homecoming brought surprises . Knights honored Phi Delta with red roses, and Phi De lta's a lumni tea offered an opportunity for graduates to meet their younger club sisters . A joint hayride was not only unifying but also fun and dusty. Both of the clubs were ac ti ve in inter· club sports compe tition Knights in softba ll , footba ll, volleyba ll , a nd basketball, and Phi Deltas in softba ll , basketba ll , and volleyball. The women won the sma ll club A·team c hamp ionship in the voll eyba ll contest. The spring semeste r started in a flurry of activity. Phi De lta su rpr ised the Knights with homemade goodies at their club meeting, and both clubs went on a skating party outing. The last few weeks of the school yea r were filled with Spring Sing, for· ma l banquets, Special Olmpics and various other projects a nd activities. Phi De lta membe rs se rved as " hug· gers" in the Speical Olympics . Said Susan Bryan, club preside nt, of the event, " It was hard to te ll who had more fun - the kids or us!"
