Sophomores Direction Upward With a full year of freshmen experiences and memories behind them, the sophomores of 1982 stepped through Harding's portals prepared to meet the challenges and responsibilities brought on in that second year of higher learning. Academics gained new importance, and general education requirements suddenly began to take on meaning. Sophomore Bob Bain, of lexington, Ken. , said, "As I get into my major a littie more now, I begin to see the purpose of all the general classes. I'm actually beg inning to use that stuff now in my harder classes." Not only were grades and learning significant, they also sometimes took precedence over certain social events. "When I was a freshman, I scheduled my homework around my life; now I'm just starting to schedule my life around my homework and learning, and I can see how the things I'm doing Terri Lynn Abney/Springfield. Just as a bird does not soar as soon as he begins to fly, so the sophomores were not yet fully developed and "mature" upperclassmen. But they were well on their way. They first had to grow, to learn how to use their wings effectively. And slowly they rose as they learned to fly higher and higher and higher . ~ - Mariann ~ox Sophomore Class Officers.
