S.A. Seeks To 'Commit Work to the Lord' With the us ua l non-s top first week of ac ti v iti es, t he 1982-83 Harding Student As socia tion Executive Council embarked on a yea r with a purpose. Under the presidential leadership of Zac M uncy, t he S. A . undertook a theme to set its sights upon throughout the sc hool year. The theme, taken from Prove rbs 16:3, states , "Commit you r work to the lord, and your plans will be es tablished ." " In all the ac ti v ities. speakers, events and movies that we ha ve sponsored, this theme has been the unde rl ying factor . We attempted to dedicate everyth ing we did to the Lord; we knew if we . did that, our pl ans would su cceed, " Muncy said . 98/Student Assoc iat ion With t he Bibli ca l principal in mind, the S. A. se t out to keep the student body free of any spare time that might go to waste. Concerts sponso red by the association included M ichae l Iceberg, Don Wi lliams, and a student group ca ll ed Double Barrel. A front lawn conce rt f eatured the talents of Suburban Yards, also a student group. " We decided f rom the beginn ing that we would serve the students in any way that we cou ld . The basis of Chri stianity is servant hood - t he basis for greatness is being in subject ion to one anot he r . The stude n t body elected us to serve them, and that is w hat we attempted to do - f rom providing act iv i ties for t hei r enjoyment to just sayi ng ' hi ' on t he sidewa lk," Muncy sa id . In attempting to serve the students, the S. A. al so aided students in servi ng others away from the campus. The Toy and Doll y Drive once agai n became a part of the Harding Chri stmas when t he S. A. requested that clubs adopt ce rtain homes to whic h to send their toys. " We wanted to make the gi fts more personal t han they had been in t he past," said proj ec t chairperson Leon Johnson. - Darrell L. Truitt
