set, washing machine parts and a 10·speed bicycle gear shift. He compared his machine ' to flying a plane by instruments. Michael said, "I had a plane once. This has a lot more in· struments than the plane." However, his machine has one advantage over a flying machine. "When you make a mistake on this machine you won't crash." Last year he added an electric drum set. He pre-programmed several drum patterns which follow each other on command . "I'm a bad drummer," Michael said, "and the machine has to be programmed by someone who knows how to play the drums. I program the drums." There are not many performers who are a one man band, but Michael Iceberg has sue· cessfully captured a sound that is unique and that cannot be reproduced by any band or or· chestra. He also includes an electronic "chic singer," trains, wind, rain , thunder, cats, dogs, pigs, and any combination thereof. In the studio, music is record· ed on many tracks allowing a musician to record one instrument at a time. Michael plays all his instruments at once. "I think it's more difficult to playa synthesizer live than in a studio," he said. "Most synthesizer musicians record. I'm different." Michael performs. For five and one half years Michael Iceberg's new home has been Orlando, Florida . home of Walt Disney World and Tomorrowland where he performs live every day. Since Oc· tober 3. he has been on tour playing for colleges, univer· sities and conventions. He travels on a big bus with his wife, Nancy, and his crew, Duane Decker and Tom Tatar, and the Iceberg's dog, Benny. "Benny has been traveling with us for about nine years," he said. "I got Nancy and Benny at the same time." Although he has performed in thousands of places, Michael Iceberg feels that Harding is his home away from home. "No baloney! Coming here is the biggest thrill of our tour. We can't wait to come to Harding," he said. Michael first came to Harding in the spring of 1979 and was more than received not only be· cause of his music. but because of his special attitude. 'They are so easy to work with and so appreciative of everything that is done for them," said Terri Harmon, co-chairman of the Social Affairs Committee. "They never demand anything," she said. Michael Iceberg gives Harding a part of himself in every performance. ") don't want an artificial high when I do my con· cert," Michael said. "( want it to be the highlight of my day. I feel good when I know I've done my best." Michael brought his "souped· up" machine back to Harding February 6 for what he said was his finest performance. When he was asked what he would like to say to Harding students..., he said, "We love it here. We're thrilled that we've been asked."
